Transporting our cheese now requires 60% fewer trucks from the packer to the distribution centers, and back again. Together with our partners, we monitor developments in the field of sustainable transport and improve where possible.
Fewer trucks needed
Fuel savings with hybrid truck
Sustainability in cheese transportation
Since 2021, we have been using cardboard boxes instead of plastic crates. Because these boxes no longer have to be returned to the distribution center from the packer, 60% fewer trucks are now needed. This saves many miles with an "empty" loading space.
The cardboard can be reused or recycled after use. In addition, we save the water and energy we needed to wash the crates.
Fuel Economy
Our cheese transporter G.G. de Vries & Son from Minnertsga now transports our cheese to the ripening warehouses with a hybrid truck. This new truck provides a fuel saving of 20%.
Our cheese is given time to mature, which ensures the best taste. What sustainable steps can we take during the process of ripening and packaging?
