CONO Kaasmakers’ climate targets have been validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This officially confirms that CONO’s near-term science-based targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through 2030 are in line with the latest climate science and the Paris Agreement. The targets were added to the SBTi Target Dashboard today.

For CONO, this validation is an important step toward making the cooperative and the supply chain more sustainable. With 2024 as the base year, we are working toward concrete emissions reductions by 2030. These goals guide the decisions we make both at our own cheese factory and in collaboration with customers, partners, and our member dairy farmers.

“This approval shows that our climate targets have been carefully assessed and meet the SBTi criteria,” says Janet Bakker, sustainability and climate project manager.“We know that making the dairy industry more sustainable is a shared challenge. That’s why we’re working step by step toward further emissions reductions: in our own operations, together with our dairy farmers, and with partners throughout the supply chain.”

The SBTi validation aligns with CONO Kaasmakers’ ambition and the way we want to contribute to making the supply chain more sustainable: step by step, in a pragmatic manner, and backed by measurable goals. In this way, we are working together with our dairy farmers, customers, and partners to create a future-proof dairy supply chain and a healthier living environment for future generations. In the coming period, we will focus on concrete measures to achieve our reduction targets. We will also continue to improve our data quality, including by making greater use of primary data from the supply chain in future reports wherever possible.
