CONO Cheese Makers today announced the 2024 grazing figures of its member dairy farmers. As many as 97% of member dairy farmers remain loyal to outdoor grazing, a percentage that remained the same as last year. This puts CONO dairy farmers' results significantly above the national average, which was 77% in 2023. The national figures for 2024 are expected soon, expected to be lower than last year.
The cows of CONO dairy farmers were at pasture for an average of 175 days in 2024, almost the same as 176 days in 2023. Grazing hours also remained stable, averaging 10 hours per day. Gerben van Diepen, Chairman of the Executive Board at CONO Kaasmakers, explains, "Despite challenges such as the wet spring and the impact of the bluetongue virus, our dairy farmers remain committed to outdoor grazing, with another great result this year. Outdoor grazing is an important part of our sustainable approach and contributes to the welfare of our cows. "CONO Kaasmakers is known for its commitment to sustainability and animal welfare. Through the Caring Dairy program, CONO supports its dairy farmers in making responsible choices that contribute positively to animal welfare and the future of future generations.
