Once a year, the weekly cheese market in Alkmaar is extra special, as that is when the induction ceremony for the North Holland Cheese Guild of Honor takes place. On Friday, September 4, 2026, individuals who have made significant contributions to the North Holland cheese tradition were once again honored.

On behalf of CONO Kaasmakers, Alex Kruiter of Royal Smilde and René Nap of Alexanderhoeve Cheese and Nutswere inducted into the Honorary Guild this year. Prior to the induction ceremony, they jointly opened the cheese market by ringing the bell. They also passed a proficiency test under the watchful eye of the “cheese father,” board members, and master cheesemakers.

The official induction ceremony then took place at Alkmaar City Hall, where the new Honorary Guild members were given a festive welcome. Admission to the Honorary Guild is a special recognition of their dedication to the North Holland cheese tradition and our Gouda cheeses.
