CONO Cheesemakers starts pilot with methane-reducing feed additive

CONO Cheese Makers, in cooperation with DSM, has started a pilot with the feed additive Bovaer®. This feed additive can reduce methane emissions from cows by an average of 30%.

No concessions to taste and quality
Wim Betten, general manager of CONO: "As a cooperative CONO Kaasmakers, together with the company and our member dairy farmers, we are constantly innovating and becoming more sustainable. The pilot with Bovaer® is part of our climate program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With this pilot we are going to investigate whether Bovaer® has an impact on the quality of our cheeses in addition to reducing greenhouse gases. This is something we never compromise on."

Climate ambition
CONO Kaasmakers is a small farmers' cooperative with a big ambition. Together we go for positive for future generations, doing everything we can to pass on our world in a positive way to the next generation. This requires cooperation in the chain. It starts with the feed for the cow, followed by measures on the farm and in the cheese dairy, in distribution and in packaging on the store shelf. We want to use all our craftsmanship and develop new knowledge to reduce the footprint of our cheese and capture CO₂. Remaining emissions will be offset. At our own member farmers if possible, and further away if necessary.
